The Philippine National Police (PNP) ‘Oplan Clean Rider’ campaign, which seeks to crackdown on criminal activity committed by motorcyclists, particularly riding-in-tandem suspects, begins today, August 1.
“One of our problems now are crimes committed by motorcycle riding-in-tandem or motorcycle-riding suspects,” said Police Regional Office-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Joem Malong. “The PNP is trying to address these crimes vigorously through the campaign.”
Through ‘Oplan Clean Rider,’ motorcyclists are asked to register their vehicle with the local police. Once registered and declared a “clean rider,” an indicating sticker will be attached to their motorcycle and driver’s license.
At least 30 motorists were apprehended last month by the Bacolod City Police Office in violation of City Ordinance 832, the ordinance regulating the practice of riding-in-tandem in the city.
According to the ordinance, it is prohibited for two people to ride a motorcycle from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., unless it is determined there is an emergency or other legitimate reason.
Apprehended operators are fined P300, while the backrider is fined P200./WDJ
