Philippines defends U18 girls’ basketball title

After recently sweeping the ASEAN School Games U18 girls’ basketball tournament at the House of Champion court, located in the Gem In Mall Cyberjaya in Selangor, Malaysia, the Philippine successfully defended their title after defeating Singapore, 80-42.

Kent Jane Pastrana of Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City led the win with 14 points, followed by Karl Ann Pingol of Iloilo City scoring 12.

Assistant Coach Denden Velez reiterated a comment from before the tournament, noting, “We have the talent and just need the proper support.”

Meanwhile, Bacolod City athletes from Romanito Maravilla High School medaled in track and field with Ann Katherine Quitoy taking gold in the javelin, with a record-breaking 49.18-meter throw; as Trexie dela Torre, of the same school, captured the long jump.

In addition, Bernalyn Bejoy earned bronze in the 800m dash./JSG, WDJ
