The ongoing bad weather resulting from enhanced monsoon conditions brought about by Tropical Depression “Henry” caused delays in the unloading of National Food Authority (NFA) rice at the Bredco Port in Bacolod City.

NFA-Negros Occidental head, Engr. Frisco Canoy, said, since the shipment arrived from Thailand last week, 3,382 out of a total 80,000 sacks of rice have been unloaded and transported to the NFA facility in Bacolod City.

He explained, exposure to rainy conditions can impact the quality of the rice.

While the NFA official was unable to provide a definite date on when the shipment will be unloaded, he said, under better weather conditions, it can be completed within seven days.

The rice allocation for Negros Occidental has been delayed since last month, which has primarily been blamed on loading problems due to bad weather./DGB, WDJ
