Leonardia: The writer of the letter has 2019 ambitions

In response to the city government recently revealing it would be formally applying for a P1.7 billion loan through the Department of Finance (DOF) in order to fund four “flagship projects,” an opposition letter, allegedly penned by a local politician, was filed before the DOF.
In a press conference yesterday, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia called the maneuver “sabotage,” noting, he was earlier informed about the letter by DOF Secretary Carlos Dominguez
The mayor would not reveal the name of the individual who wrote the letter. He only said, “politician with 2019 ambitions.”
Leonardia insisted the intended projects are for the betterment of the city.
The “flagship projects” include construction of the 10,000-seater Bacolod MassKara Coliseum, which would cost P800 million; Bacolod City College enhancements amounting to P350 million; development for the Progreso Village relocation site costing P350 million; and P200 million worth of various road and bridge projects.
He also clarified, contrasting claims made in the opposition letter, plans to borrow the loan was not done in a short period of time./DGB, WDJ
