After La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan earlier revealed she had been the recipient of death threats, La Castellana municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon, confirmed receiving orders from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, Jr., to increase security for the town official.
Teoxon said they plan on setting up a community police unit near the mayor’s residence. Meanwhile, since Nicor-Mangilimutan said the threats had been received via text message, the local police chief said they are currently trying to trace the phone numbers that sent the threats.
Last week, the mayor revealed she had been receiving death threats claiming she was on a list of suspected drug protectors, which she vehemently denied.
The threats also called her the “third” on a list of “narco-officials,” following Mayor Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas and Mayor Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.
Nicor-Mangilimutan said she has an idea of who is sending the threats and believes they may be linked to next year’s midterm elections./DGB, WDJ
