An off-duty police officer flagged down a ‘suspicious-looking’ riding-in-tandem after they were caught speeding over the weekend along North Capitol Road in Bacolod City.

Police identified the two individuals as BM Maravilla and Philip Rivera, both work as call center agents and are residents of Barangay Alijis.

Reports from Police Station 2 (PS2) said, around 5:00 p.m., the two were speeding through heavy traffic and sideswiped a taxi driven by Ronie Habagat.

An off-duty cop, who has requested anonymity, spotted the two and immediately gave chase in his pick-up truck.

He suspected the two may have been involved in criminal activity.

The police officer managed to catch up and ordered them to dismount their motorcycle and lie face down on the floor. He then contacted PS2, who immediately brought them to the station for questioning.

When questioned as to why they were speeding, the two explained they were trying to skip the heavy traffic. However, they did admit to sideswiping Habagat’s taxi and apologized.

Habagat, meanwhile, decided not to pursue a case, stating, damage was minimal./DGB, WDJ
