Negrense folktale book launch on Monday
Negrense folktale book “Juan Pusong at Iba Pang Kuwentong Bayan at Alamat sa Isla ng Negros” will officially launch on Monday, July 16, during an event scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Bacolod City Government Center MassKara Halls 3 and 4.
The book, led by the Christian Artists National Various Arts Society (CANVAS), in partnership with the Bacolod City Public Library and Bacolod City Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., is a collection of Negrense folktales written in both Hiligaynon and Tagalog.
Among the authors of the stories include CANVAS President Arthur C. Bayles, Ar. Daniel M. Bayles of La Consolacion College-Bacolod, along with various teachers from across Bacolod City.
Last May, the Iloilo City Public Library conducted a training focused on developing children’s books in the mother tongue at the City Hall penthouse.
City Librarian Marion Aguirre said the output from the 50 participating librarians will be compiled and distributed to various city libraries.
Aguirre noted, “This will help children, particularly those taught [in] English, to be familiar with and to be able to speak the mother tongue.”/WDJ
