The primary suspect in a 20-year-old murder case was arrested last Monday afternoon in Barangay Bagroy, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the suspect as 47-year-old Randy Arzaga, a resident of the said area.

Binalbagan municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Albert Hucalla Sy, said Arzaga’s arrest warrant was issued in March 1999 by the Himamaylan City Regional Trial Court-Branch 55, signed by now-retired Judge Jose Aguirre, Jr.

Sy said Arzaga and three other conspirators were already sentenced and were sent to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila.

However, Arzaga managed to hide for 20 years. He also temporarily moved to Mindoro in order to elude capture.

When he returned to Negros Occidental, police immediately traced his whereabouts to the mountainous area of Barangay Santol, in the said municipality, and later to Barangay Bagroy.

Arzaga is scheduled to be transported to the New Bilibid Prison to serve his jail sentence, which is non-bailable./DGB, WDJ
