Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor recently said, while he foresees “no problem” with legislation proposing a shift to a federal form of government in the House of Representatives, he does believe there will be tough opposition in the Senate.

He said most senators “want to retain the old system where members of the Upper House are voted at large.” The mayor pointed out, under federalism, two senators from each state are elected.

Malabor also said federalism would be “beneficial to employees of national government agencies.”

“They will not lose their jobs, instead, they will just be assigned and absorbed to the federal agencies where they are residing,” he stated.

The mayor also welcomed the inclusion of Siquijor in the proposed Negrosanon Federated Region (NFR), adding, while operating under the now-defunct Negros Island Region, projects were “implemented faster.”/DGB, WDJ
