The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said Typhoon “Gardo” would bring occasional rains across the Western Visayas.
In a live press briefing via social media, PAGASA Weather Specialist Ariel Rojas said the Western Visayas would experience occasional downpours and light rains today, with temperatures between 25 and 29°C.
Around 3:00 p.m. yesterday, he reported Typhoon “Gardo” was situated 585 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, carrying maximum sustained winds of 180 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts reaching 245 kph.
The storm is moving west at 30 kph towards Taiwan.
Rojas said the storm would enhance the southwest monsoon, particularly in the western section of the country.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office-Region VI, meanwhile, issued a precautionary measure earlier this week, reminding local disaster offices in the region, including Negros Occidental, to monitor water levels in their respective rivers for possible flash floods.
Moderate to rough sea conditions are also expected in the region today./DGB, WDJ
