The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution during their regular session this week requesting Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, through the City Legal Office, to implement the relocation of flower vendors from the Bacolod Public Plaza to a designated area behind the BAYS Center.

Flower vendors were vacated from the plaza last year, however, street stalls have since been erected along the same area. The city had originally planned to move the flower merchants to the Vendor’s Plaza, alongside street food sellers, after illegal settlers were vacated from the structure last September.

At the time, City Administrator John Orola said, once cleared, the Vendor’s Plaza would be closed off in order for renovations and repair work to proceed.

The resolution, penned by City Councilor Em Ang, says the request is in line with RA 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, citing a section outlining the duties of a city engineer.

She said relocation is necessary in order to fully implement rehabilitation, improvement, and beautification plans for the Bacolod Public Plaza./DGB, WDJ
