The remains of a six-year-old child were recovered yesterday from a creek in Barangay Bantayan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as six-year-old Maclarb Sanchez, a resident of the said area.
Kabankalan City police said the victim’s grandmother tried to pick him up from school on Tuesday afternoon, however, Sanchez reportedly went home with other children.
Police believe Sanchez may have lost his footing while trying to cross the creek and was quickly swept away by strong currents.
Barangay officials organized a search and rescue operation, where the child’s remains were found a few meters away from where he tried to cross.
Officials also noted, during the incident, water levels in the creek swelled due to recent heavy rains./DGB, WDJ
