The Mental Health Act, a decaying Manila, and Meralco problems

“…This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of people, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead…” – Ecclesiastes 9:3
Why are many Filipinos afflicted with mental illness (craziness, lunacy, confusion of the mind)? While I share in the elation of elected officials and members of the President Rodrigo Duterte administration with the recent passage and signing of the Mental Health Act, it is a big and bold step towards providing relief to those suffering; but, a more concerning matter, do we even know why Filipinos (and many others around the world) are afflicted with mental illness?
Many experts have attributed mental illness with heredity, pressures from day-to-day living, and drugs and alcohol; and they are mostly correct. However, for Christians who read the Bible, there is also a spiritual angle to craziness, which is well-explained in Deuteronomy 28:15 and 28.
Craziness arises from no longer reading, obeying the Bible
According to the passages, curses are showered upon those who no longer listen to God (they no longer read or study the Bible) nor obey his commands. One such curse is “madness, and blindness and confusion of the mind,” which suggests when people stray from God, their minds become easy prey for God’s enemy, the devil.
If we look around us today, it is unmistakable many are under control of the evil one, making them devilishly crazy, lunatics, and capable of committing the most heinous of crimes. In order to prevent this, a sure-fire cure is to read the Bible and obey what is written sincerely.
Manila is a city of decay and trash?
Manileños and those who frequent Manila should welcome initiatives by the Duterte administration seeking to properly dispose of garbage, a problem that appears to have been neglected.
The pictures posted on my various social media platforms (under Melanio Lazo Mauricio, Jr. and melaniomauriciojr) last Thursday show the city’s failure and utter inability to collect garbage adorning (or “giving a black eye to”) many streets and public areas.
Over the last five years, Manila has become a city of trash.
If we think more seriously, this uncollected garbage, when viewed alongside Manila residents who sleep on the city’s streets, sidewalks, under bridges, and other public places like the Liwasang Bonifacio and Luneta, it paints an undeniable reality it has also become a city of decay.
Despite high rates, Meralco cannot afford better wire connections?
In another social media post from last week, I put up pictures of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) wires that literally looked like pasta, intertwined and tied around each other. Looking closely at the wires, it is clear they could easily cause fire.
Unfortunately, such sights are not rare and, with rates increasing at a dizzying speed, Meralco can’t spend more money for better connections?
Another thing Manila residents cannot understand, why does Meralco refuse to provide connections for those who request service? Is it because they are a monopoly?
