Following his recent knockout loss to Japanese boxer Ryuichi Funai in their World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight bout, Cadiz City-native Warlito Parrenas announced his retirement.
“This [was] my last fight,” he stated. “This fight was an eye opener for me, I had a strong start and even won a couple of rounds but I suddenly gassed out late in the match.”
“I have achieved my purpose in boxing,” Parrenas added. “I already have a stable job in Japan as trainer.”
This is the second time he has announced his retirement, having reportedly quit back in 2015 after losing another WBO super flyweight belt challenge, that time to Naoya Inoue of Japan.
Parrenas wraps up his career with 26 victories, eight defeats, and a draw./JSG, WDJ
