Dino: Bacolod City will help Cebu grow and develop

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino, speaking in place of Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, during an event commemorating the signing of the Charter of the City of Bacolod at the L’ Fisher Hotel earlier this week, highlighted various projects in and around Bacolod City under the “Build, Build, Build” program, an initiative of the President Rodrigo Duterte administration.

He noted the Negros-Guimaras-Panay bridges project and expansion to Bacolod-Silay Airport.

“The ‘Build, Build, Build’ program of our current government has completely changed the city’s landscape and skyline,” Dino said.

“Growth and development also brings with it corresponding challenges such as traffic, pollution, flooding, and all other ills of living in a big city,” he pointed out. “All these problems have to be addressed.”

The presidential assistant also discussed electricity, saying Bacolod City will be instrumental in helping Cebu.

“I have read that Negros Occidental, through the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco), is buying electricity from Kepco (Korean Electric Power Corporation) in Cebu,” Dino stated. “Sooner, Bacolod will be producing electricity for Cebu!”

“You will soon help Cebu in its rapid growth and development,” he added.

Despite the development of various energy generation sources, many parts of the province are still hampered by power outages, including scheduled interruptions by Ceneco. Most recently, a trip of the 138-kilovolt National Grid Corporation of the Philippines-Mabinay transmission line caused a power outage throughout Negros Occidental and portions of Negros Oriental.

Ceneco has also been under fire recently for passing on P232 million worth of “unnominated quantities” accumulated from the KEPCO-Salcon Power Corporation to member-consumers.

During the same event, the 2018 Ang Banwahanon Awards, considered to be the highest award given to a city resident, were distributed.

This year’s recipients included Rustico E. Año, Jr., Dr. Erlinda G. De Los Reyes, Rodney S. Martinez, and Leo Rey V. Yanson./WDJ
