Despite a resolution recently passed by the Bacolod City SangguniangPanlungsod (SP), along with pending legislation before the House of Representatives calling for Bacolod City’s charter date be changed from October 19 to June 18, no official holiday was declared for yesterday’s observance.
In a radio interview, Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito said they were waiting for President Rodrigo Duterte to sign a resolution declaring an official non-working holiday in the city, however, it was not approved in time.
The SP resolution, authored by Distrito, passed unanimously earlier this month, despite some SP members previously objecting to the move.
The city councilor also earlier noted, while the charter day bill is still pending approval in the lower house, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara confirmed a counterpart bill has already been approved on its second reading before the Senate.
Despite a holiday not being declared, a program commemorating the charter signing was held at the L’Fisher Hotel yesterday morning./DGB, WDJ
