Negros Occidental sixth district Rep. Mercedes Alvarez recounted a brief meeting with Pope Francis through a social media post.

While in  St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, she called the brief encounter “meant to be.”

The legislator described breaking down before meeting him and saying, “Lolo Kiko, Lolo Kiko, Lolo Kiko;” to which the supreme pontiff replied, “When you say Lolo Kiko, [that is] only from the Philippines.”

“In a courtyard filled with thousands of people from every nation, he knew us,” Alvarez stated.

She added, Pope Francis offers a lesson in leadership, which the congresswoman hopes to aspire to, noting, she wants to be a leader who connects to the people she serves./DGB, WDJ
