“…The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple…” –Psalm 19:7
As rains, floods, and winds begin their annual visit to the Philippines, I want to reiterate a reminder from Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, who said those who truly listen to His word and sincerely obey His commands will not perish from rains, floods, and winds – no matter how strong or devastating. Only those who listen to His word but not obey Him, along with those who do not listen at all, will perish and experience a “great crash and destruction” when rains, floods, and winds come (this environmental wisdom can be found in Matthew 7:24-27).
Many of us obviously wish to avoid “great crash and destruction,” which means we must read the aforementioned part of the Bible and understand the only way to escape natural calamities is complete submission to God’s teachings.
Global warming and climate change were predicted
Unbearably hot and scorching temperatures, devastating rains, killer floods, destructive and deadly tornados; global warming and climate change may be the realities of the moment, but it was all predicted with cunning accuracy. Today, as it would appear, these weather conditions are bringing death and destruction.
Deuteronomy 28:22-24: “The Lord will strike you… with scorching heat and drought… The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed…”
Additionally, in Matthew 7:26-27, Jesus said: “But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
A remedy to the effects of climate change
Why is all this happening? Based on the said passages, death and destruction from global warming and climate change are a result of God’s curses because man no longer listens (that is, no longer reads the Bible) nor obeys Him.
How does one remedy the situation? There are many ways.
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, we are told God’s curses will be healed in this manner: “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
Additionally, according to Deuteronomy 30:15-16: “See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.”
