The Negros Occidental provincial government provided a P2 million budget for the softball teams set to represent the country in the upcoming Asia-Pacific qualifiers in Singapore. The competition will determine representatives for the Little League World Series, scheduled to be played in the United States.
The Negros Occidental little league and junior league softball teams leave for Singapore on June 27.
According to Provincial softball consultant and coach Antonio Oquindo, Jr., the funding will go towards travel and other requirements.
Similar to last year, most of the players are students from the Education and Training Center School (ETCS) and Domingo Lacson National High School (DLNHS).
Last year, after winning in Singapore, the Bacolod City Little League softball team, composed of DLNHS students, took second place at the 2017 Senior League Softball World Series, falling in the finals, 4-0, to host team Delaware-District 3 at the Bruce Layton Field in Lower Sussex, Delaware in the United States.
Meanwhile, ETCS III student comprised the Bacolod City West Little League team, which competed in the 2017 Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon in the United States. The team exited the tournament after four games./JSG, WDJ
