The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) hosted a free performance of the Manila Concert Choir at the GSIS Theater in Pasay City on Sunday, June 10.

Entitled “Lahi, Kultura, Musika, Atbp.,” the show was jointly mounted by GSIS and the Department of Education (DepEd) in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of Philippine Independence.

“This is the most fitting way to celebrate our music and independence. The impressive ensemble will breathe life to Filipino classics that we rarely hear now,” said GSIS President and General Manager Jesus Clint Aranas.

The choir performed an all-Filipino repertoire, which includes “Anak” by Freddie Aguilar; “Ikaw” by Louie Ocampo and George Canseco; and “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” by Willy Cruz.

The Manila Concert Choir was established in 1951, with members coming from various sectors of society, including DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones. The 77-year-old education chief is its leader and highest soprano.

The 28-member chorale performed under the baton of Glen Cantada and musical accompaniment of pianist Agape Manigsaca-Labuntog, musical director of Philippine Christian University and Pilgrim Christian College, respectively. (PR)
