During its regular session last Wednesday, the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution requesting President Rodrigo Duterte to declare June 18 a special non-working holiday to mark the city’s charter day, which the administration of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is seeking moved from October 19 to June 18.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, passed unanimously, despite some SP members previously objecting to the move.
In a radio interview yesterday morning, Distrito said the resolution also called on the House of Representatives to pass the bill, filed by Bacolod lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya, which seeks to formally change the city’s charter date.
The city councilor also noted, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara confirmed a counterpart bill has already been approved on its second reading before the Senate.
If approved, classes and work in Bacolod City would be suspended for holiday, while companies operating during the day will be required to add 30 percent onto employees’ pay./DGB, WDJ
