According to Iloilo City Local Economic Investment and Promotions Office (LEIPO) head Ritchel Gavan, BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd., the automobile manufacturer based in Xi’an, China conducting a feasibility study into a proposed monorail system for Iloilo City, revealed the results are “very positive.”
She called the project “highly feasible” based on pre-feasibility determinations but noted, when asking about the study itself, the LEIPO chief said, “They are just telling us [it’s] positive, very positive.”
The official results are expected to be revealed before the end of this month.
Back in August 2017, when the feasibility study commenced, then-Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said, “If viable, this project may address the city’s transportation concerns.”
Earlier that year, the then-unnamed group initially proposed the project, with Mabilog noting they had already met with President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the matter.
The proposed monorail is expected to stretch from Iloilo City, through the town of Sta. Barbara, to Cabatuan, where Iloilo International Airport is located./WDJ
