A fire completely ravaged a home owned by a senior citizen late Wednesday evening in Purok Mahirop, Barangay Paraiso in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Authorities identified the victim as 63-year-old Virginia Hortinela.

Sagay City Bureau of Fire Protection arson investigators said Hortinela, along with her daughter-in-law, noticed sparks coming from an electrical socket inside the house.

The victims tried to douse the socket with water, however, the sparks set the main wooden panel door ablaze, which quickly spread due to the house being made of light materials.

Firefighters later arrived and quickly quelled the blaze.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the damages./DGB, WDJ
