While speaking during the opening of the 20th National Mango Congress in Guimaras recently, Senator Cynthia Villar, who serves as Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food chair, said growing Guimaras mangoes, considered the sweetest variety in the country, could be formally taught.
“Guimaras has [the National Mango Research and Development Center],” she said. “Whatever the result of the research mango, it can be taught.”
The senator noted, Agricultural Training Institute representatives will be sent to work towards developing a “mango school,” adding the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) would provide tuition subsidies for students.
“TESDA is paying,” Villar affirmed.
Guimaras Governor Samuel Gumarin basked the senator’s sentiment, noting, “We have strived to improve the mango industry in the province.”/WDJ
