After it was revealed NLEX Road Warriors point guard Kiefer Ravena tested positive for various performance enhancing drugs, the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) announced they would be conducting their own tests on the basketball player.
GAB chairman Abraham Mitra said the board will look into the matter, saying the reports have yet to be confirmed.
“We have to investigate on our own,” he affirmed. “It would be unfair to the athlete and his team to speculate.”
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) informed the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) of the results earlier this week, noting tests were conducted last February after the Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, played Japan at the Mall of Asia Arena.
FIBA has since suspended Ravena for 18 months.
“A lot is at stake,” Mitra stressed. “We must not rush to conclusions.”/JSG, WDJ
