National Flag Days began yesterday, which kicks off the country’s Independence Day celebration, which takes place next month, June 12. During this time, flags are displayed in both homes and public areas.
According to Chapter 1(B), Section 7 of RA 8491, or Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, displays of the Philippine flag are required in private buildings and residences from May 28 until June 12.
Section 26 of the said law, meanwhile, specifically addresses Flag Days and includes offices, agencies and instrumentalities of government, business establishments, and institutions of learning among other venues where a flag must be on display.
The law also notes, other days when the flag is required to be on display include April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan; May 1, Labor Day; the last Sunday of August, National Heroes Day; November 30, Bonifacio Day; and December 30, Rizal Day./WDJ
