One person is confirmed dead, while another was injured, after the motorcycle they are riding collided with a cane truck Thursday morning in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the fatality as 22-year-old AJ Talaman, a resident of Barangay Bucana, Ilog; while the injured was identified as 23-year-old Christian Alyuna, a resident of Barangay Manalad, Ilog.

Traffic investigators from the Cauayan Municipal Police Station said the victims were allegedly racing another motorcycle along the Lugway Bridge in the town’s Barangay Guiljungan.

According to the other motorcycle driver, he was speeding he believed he was being chased by the victims.

The victims eventually lost control of the motorcycle, which then collided and was eventually run over by a cane truck.

Talaman was immediately rushed to the town’s district hospital for treatment, but was declared dead on arrival by medical staff.

Alyuna, meanwhile, was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries from the accident.

The cane truck driver, who was not identified by police, later surrendered to the town’s police station./DGB, WDJ
