DOH hosts forum in Iloilo City

The Department of Health (DOH) hosted a lay forum on thyroids in Iloilo City yesterday as part of the ongoing International Thyroid Awareness Week observance.

A similar forum was held earlier in the week in Davao City.

The observance seeks to raise awareness on the prevention of thyroid disorders, which include hyperthyroidism; hypothyroidism; thyroid nodules, or goiter; and thyroid cancer.

“Thyroid disorders are preventable but can lead to the development of diseases like goiter, heart diseases, infertility, and congenital hyperthyroidism if left untreated,” said DOH Secretary, Dr. Francisco T. Duque III.

The official observance began on Monday, May 21, and ends on Sunday, May 27./WDJ
