Barangay Captain Pascual ‘Sipil’ Espinosa IV of Barangay San Juan in the Molo district of Iloilo City yesterday announced his candidacy for Iloilo City Liga ng mga Barangay president, where he will be challenging former Liga president, Barangay President Roxas Captain Irene Ong, from the City Proper district.
Espinosa, who was elected back into the position following the recent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections earlier this month, said he has been planning to run for Liga presidency for a while, noting, his background serving on the Liga Board of Directors.
He previously served as barangay captain between 1994 and 1997, and again from 2002 to 2013.
In response to reports Iloilo City lone district Rep. Jerry P. Treñas, a possible contender for city mayor in next year’s elections, is backing Ong for the position, Espinosa said, “Waay man problema (No problem),” noting, the decision falls upon each individual barangay captain./WDJ
