91 arrested in relation to Comelec gun ban

With the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban closed as of 11:59 p.m. last Monday, the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) said 91 individuals throughout the region were arrested after violating the ban.

PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Chief Inspector Joem Malong, said the gun ban was successful and thanked the public for cooperating.

Based on police data, of the 91 arrested, 12 were for possession of explosives, while 33 were caught carrying bladed weapons.

They also confiscated a total of 247 firearms.

In Negros Occidental alone, there were 29 arrests with 39 firearms seized, while Bacolod City reported 18 arrests with 15 firearms recovered.

Although the gun ban is over, Malong added, police operations against those carrying firearms and weapons illegally will continue./DGB, WDJ
