University of the Philippines (UP) women’s volleyball team head coach Godfrey Owese Okumu, who spoke during the recent opening rites for the 4th JGM Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) covered court, spoke highly of UP Lady Maroons volleyball team member and former BTTHS player Marianne Sotomil.

After discussing challenges he faced after taking over the team four months ago, Okumu said Sotomil could seal her position on the team if she performs well in the upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season.

He said she would be “a legitimate setter.”

BTTHS confirmed Sotomil would be playing for UP last February, at the time, making her the third Western Visayas-based player recruited by UP this year, following Arielle Estranero and Jessma Ramos./JSG, WDJ
