President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday led the groundbreaking of the Vista Alegre Homes project in Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Also in attendance were Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino Escalada, Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares, and Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez.
The project, which is spearheaded by NHA, under the new Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police Housing Program, aims to provide quality housing for police and members of the military.
It will house about 1,000 police and army families on around 15 hectares.
Duterte assured police and army forces his administration will continue to look after their welfare.
“I’m watching your back,” he said.
However, despite the president saying he would not allow any police and army personnel to be imprisoned in line of duty, Duterte also stated he would not tolerate misdeeds committed by their officers.
Meanwhile, the president also addressed the proposed peace talks, saying he is finding peaceful solutions.
“As the father of the country, all I want is a country where peace reigns,” Duterte added./DGB, WDJ
