Following a training by the Iloilo City Public Library (ICPL) focused on developing children’s books in the mother tongue last week at the Iloilo City Hall penthouse, City Librarian Marion Aguirre said the output from the fifty participating librarians will be compiled and distributed to various city libraries.
Prior to the training, Aguirre noted, “This will help children, particularly those taught [in] English, to be familiar with and to be able to speak the mother tongue.”
“These books for children and adults will be in Hiligaynon,” she added.
National Library of the Philippines assistant reference division chief Flordeliza T. Quiñones hopes the program will continue in subsequent years.
“Since NCCA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts) witnessed the good results of the project, hopefully, this will be given enough budget and will continue for the next years to come,” she said.
