The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded the public the gun ban, which began on April 14, remains in effect until Monday, May 21, when the election period for the recent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls expires.
According to Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6), as of Tuesday, 80 people were arrested in violation of the policy, resulting in 232 firearms being seized.
Cadiz City has the distinction of arresting the first gun ban violator in the country this year.
33-year-old Jonathan Sison, a former security guard, was arrested after posing as a police officer. A search later revealed he was carrying a .357 caliber magnum firearm./WDJ
