The Department of Public Works and Highways-Region VI (DPWH-6) recently discussed the Panay East-West Lateral Road, which is expected to connect Antique, Iloilo, and Capiz, noting the project is anticipated to reach full completion by 2020.

DPWH-6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. said the road will stretch 41 kilometers and had a current budget allocation of P2.6 billion.

Travel time between central Iloilo and Antique is expected to be reduced by a half-hour, from two hours and 30 minutes to two hours.

In Aklan, Provincial District Engineer Noel Fuentebella previously revealed P490 million in an augmentation fund was set to be released for the purpose of subsidizing road projects on shuttered resort destination Boracay.

Earlier, during a visit to the island, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar laid out several improvement plans.

“We aim to complete the whole Boracay Circumferential Road, which will strictly follow the 6.10-meter carriageway standard and road right-of-way on both sides,” the cabinet official stated. “We also plan to build sidewalks and bike lanes for pedestrians.”/WDJ
