A motorcycle driver was killed, while his backrider was injured, after they crashed into an oncoming truck along the national highway on Thursday at Crossing Pacol in Barangay Poblacion, Valladolid, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the fatality as 22-year-old Atelano Galez III, while the injured was 23-year-old Cherry Rose Davido, both residents of Barangay Miranda in Pontevedra.

Traffic investigators from the Valladolid municipal police said the victims were heading south when they occupied the lane of an oncoming six-wheeler truck driven by 42-year-old Jefrey Ignacio.

Both vehicles collided head-on, with the force of the impact destroying Galez’s helmet.

Local residents immediately provided assistance to the victims by rushing them both to the town’s district hospital, however Galez was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.

Ignacio, meanwhile, surrendered to the Valladolid Municipal Police Station after the incident./DGB, WDJ
