A 39-year-old man was arrested after police noticed he was carrying a firearm late Wednesday evening along Boromeo Street in Barangay 4, Isabela, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the suspect as Filicito Costan, Jr., a resident of Barangay Camang-camang of the said town.

Isabela municipal police said they received a call from Constan’s son, reporting his father was creating alarm at the wake for his sibling.

Police responded and tried to calm down the suspect, however, one of the cops, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Gilbert Gentugao, noticed the barrel of Constan’s .38 caliber firearm protruding from his sling bag.

Gentugao grabbed Constan’s sling bag and arrested him after the suspect failed to produce any permit or exemption from the ongoing Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Aside from the .38 caliber gun, police also recovered four .38 caliber bullets inside the bag.

The suspect face charges for illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Comelec gun ban./DGB, WDJ
