A release by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) yesterday called on the public to report signage blocking the road or obstructing traffic signals, noting the agency has been receiving reports of signs installed along national highways, which obstruct motorists’ view of other drivers and traffic signals.

“DPWH field personnel, nationwide, continuously monitor and remove unnecessary signs within [the] six-meter easement [in] each direction of our national roads,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar. “We still ask the public to be of assistance and provide us with any information of RROW (road right-of-way) violations.”

With the ongoing campaign period underway for the upcoming May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, many of the obstructions are said to be campaign posters.

The agency noted violators will be given 15 days to dismantle their signage, or the DPWH regional office and district engineering office will be required to remove the obstructions.

Last week, during a visit to Boracay, Villar laid out several plans to improve the island, including a road widening project.

“We aim to complete the whole Boracay Circumferential Road, which will strictly follow the 6.10-meter carriageway standard and road right-of-way on both sides,” the cabinet official stated. “We also plan to build sidewalks and bike lanes for pedestrians.”/WDJ
