Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) reportedly attacked a construction site Monday evening in Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade spokesperson, Army Captain Ruel Llanes, said the rebels, reportedly comprised of around 20 armed gunmen, attacked a dam being constructed in the area.

The rebels then proceeded to burn a backhoe, a generator set, and a worker’s bunkhouse.

The suspects immediately withdrew, with Llanes noting the rebels were firing their guns while fleeing.

He added, they have already sent soldiers to the area and are presently conducting hot-pursuit operations against the perpetrators.

The said dam was under the National Irrigation Authority./DGB, WDJ
