According to the release put out by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday, a total P1,281,500 has already been distributed for 470 workers who have been displaced since the recent closure of resort destination Boracay.
Earlier, DSWD officer-in-charge Emmanuel A. Leyco affirmed the agency was in good shape to provide assistance.
“Mayroon pong sapat na pondo ang DSWD para tulungan ang mga kababayan nating apektado ng pagsasara ng Boracay (DSWD has sufficient funding to assist our fellow citizens who have been affected by Boracay’s closure),” he said.
The government agency has also provided around P7.1 million in transportation assistance, along with over P9.7 million to affected residents.
Meanwhile, DSWD is coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in order to provide assistance through a cash-for-work (CFW) program.
Last month, DSWD said residents may qualify for the CFW program, which seeks to provide temporary employment for distressed or displaced individuals.
Earlier this year, the agency distributed CFW funds for families and individuals affected by the Mt. Mayon eruption./WDJ
