A multi-sectoral civil society organization in Negros Occidental urged Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano to run for Senate in the coming 2019 elections.

In an event at the Negros Press Club yesterday morning, college professor, Dr. Bernaldo Eres, said they are “challenging” Alejano to “consider the position of running as senator.”

In a statement, Eres said Alejano “has been consistently the voice of the opposition under the new administration.”

“We take pride that Alejano has family roots from Negros Occidental,” he said. “Born in Sipalay City, he would be a political champion for us.”

“Our battle cry would be Negros is hungry for a senator, Alejano belong to us,” Eres added.

He pointed out, Filipino people are concerned about wages, prices, poverty, and job opportunities.

Max Magracia, Magdalo partylist in Negros chair and Alejano’s uncle, said “the voice of the silent majority should not be underestimated.”

Magracia noted, the Gary Alejano for Senator Movement has no direct connection with the congressman’s office.

[The congressman] has no knowledge about this, he added.

In addition, the group also launched a “piso para kay Alejano” fundraising campaign./DGB, WDJ
