Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya yesterday requested an “urgent delivery” of anti-rabies vaccines from the Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6).
According to the congressman, a request was sent on May 1, which was replied to with 120 vaccines for the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) animal bites center. However, he called the supply “partial” as the city is currently experiencing a shortage.
Gasataya said DOH is still bidding for a new vaccine supplier, adding there should be a partnership between the DOH and local government units.
Earlier, Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) head, Dr. Renante Decena, identified Bacolod City as one of the seven towns and cities in Negros Occidental with confirmed rabies cases.
Recent tests conducted by the PVO also revealed 14 dogs tested positive for rabies./DGB, WDJ
