With the ongoing closure of resort destination Boracay, the Department of Trade and Industry-Region VI (DTI-6) has imposed a price freeze on the island in order to conduct price monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities, which include canned fish, processed milk, coffee, laundry soap, detergent, candles, bread, salt, potable water, and locally-manufactured noodles.

DTI-6 Director Rebecca M. Rascon noted price monitoring is a regular practice of the regional office.

In addition, DTI Consumer Protection Division Chief Felisa Judith Degala said the regional office will also be publishing the prices of basic necessities.

Meanwhile, DTI identified alternative sources of income for displace workers, including mounting kiosks for various local festivals.

The department will be conducting trainings, coaching, and mentoring on business opportunities./WDJ
