According to a National Nutrition Council regional division, Negros Occidental saw decreases in a variety of childhood nutritional disorders.

The report showed, between 2014 and 2017, there was a 13.59 percent in stunting; a 3.73 percent drop in wasting, or when a child’s body weight is not proportion to their height; and a 1.19 percent drop in underweight cases.

However, since 2014, the number of overweight cases has fluctuated, but, between 2016 and 2017, cases dropped by 1.92 percent.

According to Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, who also serves as a provincial nutrition committee action officer, said, “Our advocacies should be one with that of the National Nutrition Council.”

“We try to make an agenda that focuses on advocacies,” he added./WDJ
