About 23,000 members of the Electoral Board (EB) in Iloilo province yesterday started their eight-day training in preparation for the incoming May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Elizabeth Doronila, provincial officer of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), said the training will allow members of the electoral board to know their specific duties during elections day.

They will be assigned in about 7,600 clustered precincts all over the province.

Each clustered precinct has a chairperson and two members. They will each receive a maximum of P7,000 as compensation, including their travel allowance, said Doronilla.

Doronilla said they have tackled during their Wednesday’s Provincial Joint Security Command Center (PJSCC) meeting in Iloilo City the provisions of safety and security to the members of electoral board.

“We have planned to provide them with escorts,” she said.

Doronilla said that enforcement agencies are ready to provide the needed personnel for security.
She also reminded poll candidates to follow the guidelines on the sizes of campaign materials and where they will be posted as campaign period will start today.

Posters should only be two feet by three feet, she said.

“They should be placed on common poster areas which will be determined by the election officer in their respective area of jurisdiction,” she said.

She added that handouts or stickers should only be eight and a half by 14 inches long.

But Doronilla said that handouts or stickers should contain the name of person who paid for the propaganda material because it will be included in the statements of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) of the official.
