During a visit to Boracay, following the resort destination’s closure last Thursday, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar laid out several plans to improve the island.

“We aim to complete the whole Boracay Circumferential Road, which will strictly follow the 6.10-meter carriageway standard and road right-of-way on both sides,” the cabinet official stated. “We also plan to build sidewalks and bike lanes for pedestrians.”

He added, the roadway will also include an improved drainage and sewerage system.

“We have six months to restore the beauty of Boracay,” Villar stressed.

Following the island’s closure on April 26, volunteers from the Department of Tourism, alongside participants from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau, Department of the Interior and Local Government, among other groups, took part in a clean-up drive on Boracay.

The event was part of the DOT #SaveBoracay project./WDJ
