The Negros Press Club (NPC) denounced the recent shooting of Edmund Sestoso, a Dumaguete City-based radio anchor, which took place earlier this week while he was aboard a tricycle in the city’s Barangay Daro.
Press Club President Renato Duran agreed with claims the shooting was a result of comments made on the air, calling it “a form of intimidation and curtailment on the role of the media.”
“We hope the perpetrators will be brought to justice immediately,” he said. “We call on authorities for a speedy resolution.”
Duran also called on members of the press to maintain vigilance and always uphold ethical and responsible media practices.
Sestoso sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, arms, and legs; and is currently in critical condition at Silliman University Medical Center./JSG, WDJ
