Habitat for Humanity Philippines will be bringing their Young Leaders Build Campaign to Silay City today, May 2, with a program at the Bon-bon Resettlement Project Phase III, located in the city’s Barangay E. Lopez. The organization, alongside the Silay City government, is currently constructing a housing project at the site.
The program, which begins at 8:30 a.m., will feature addresses by Habitat for Humanity-Asia Pacific Area Vice President Rick Hathaway and Managing Director Michael Meaney; along with words by representatives from the Hilti Foundation, an international organization that seeks to benefit underprivileged people, and the Maritess A. Yong (MAY) Foundation.
Silay City Mayor Mark Golez and Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez were also invited to offer messages.
The event will also include “testimony from the youth;” a presentation from the Katuwang community; an orientation on construction safety; and warm-up exercises, which will cover house construction, grass cutting, back-filling, and painting.
Last month, around 1,500 volunteers converged on the housing site to begin construction and house painting, conduct a community clean-up drive, and rehabilitate schools.
Earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity broke ground at the same site for a disaster-resilient housing project, which will include 100 cement-bamboo framed housing units, or 50 duplex units, with a total estimated value of P45 million./WDJ
