A radio broadcaster is currently in critical condition after being shot by an unidentified gunmen yesterday morning outside a Dumaguete City radio station.
Police identified the victim as Edmund Sestoso, a broadcaster for DZGB-FM Dumaguete and former National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) chapter chairman in Negros Oriental.
In a statement released by the NUJP, Sestoso just finished his radio program “Tug-anan” and was heading home in a tricycle when he was attacked by motorcycle-riding gunmen.
Sestoso sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, arms, and legs.
When the pedicab operator tried to rush Sestoso to the the Silliman University Medical Center, the gunmen again opened fire and flattened the tires of the vehicle, forcing the victim and concerned citizens to wait for another vehicle.
As of press time the victim is presently undergoing emergency surgery.
Dumaguete City police, meanwhile, are presently reviewing surveillance camera footage from the area.
