A construction worker was hacked to death by two assailants yesterday morning at Purok Maasin in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the fatality as 60-year-old Oldarico Garfil, a resident of Barangay Minoyan of the said town.

Murcia municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Roberto Indiape, said, at the time of the incident, Garfil was reported to be under the influence of alcohol and was spreading rumors regarding alleged thievery at the resort he was working at.

The victim’s allegations angered the suspects, identified as 48-year-old Jerry Constantino and 30-year-old Jerry Hernaiz, who proceeded to chase Garfil and repeatedly hacking him until he died.

Indiape added, the suspects immediately fled following the incident but confirmed he received reports the suspects are planning to surrender to police./DGB, WDJ
